About Me.

Hi! My name is Charlie, I am 19 years old and I have lived in Southampton my whole life. I am a traditional artist who has had a passion for art since I was little. I have studied A-levels Fine Art and Media (Production) at Barton Peveril College. I am currently in my 3rd year doing a Foundation Art Diploma (FAD). My artistic expression has evolved over the years from mastering realism using coloured pencils, to being more expressive and illustrative with acrylics. I have recently started to experiment with spray paints and creating stencils to incorporate into my creative process.

Inspirations

Throwing all of your problems into your art, in my opinion, is the best way to produce original and genuine artwork. It is more difficult for me to voice my opinions due to anxiety. However, through the recent artworks I have produced, I have let loose these overwhelming emotions onto my canvas to create a feeling that so many other people, especially those of my age, can identify with. My art is usually inspired by things I've seen in my day to day life whether that's a cool piece of clothing of someone walking past, street art, or images and art techniques I see on Pinterest or instagram that I like to recreate in my own style. I am inspired by the method through which you make a piece of art. My artistic composition and storytelling are influenced by film and TV. This has supported me to adapt my artistic style by manipulating my original imagery through light, shape and perspective. I am looking forward to developing an individual's perception through how I present my artworks and deepen my knowledge of art and see being an artist as a necessary component of my daily life. My work has become more spontaneous in the process as my confidence has increased, being influenced by street artist such as ‘MrCenz’ and ‘MyDogSighs’.

Over the past 3 years I have created my own commission business, selling personalised pet and people portraits to locals via Facebook and Instagram in order to fund my creative career. My long-term objective is to have my artwork displayed both on large street murals and live in galleries. The concept of having my artwork on display in a public space for others to enjoy, relate to, and experience emotion from looking at it and all the intricate elements and significance behind it is what I'm most excited about.
